A new chapel has been formed at the base of the tower at St Illtyd's. The design is simple and restrained in keeping with the Celtic origins of the church. The project was part funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund and the Historic Churches Preservation Fund.

The work was completed in 1998 for a cost of £40,000.
The project received a Civic Trust Award and Lord Mayor's Design Award.
